In text messages released Thursday by the House Ways and Means Committee’s Republicans, transcripts provided by IRS whistleblowers show that Hunter was invoking the name of his father when making business dealings with overseas firms. In one text, Hunter specifically references his father, pressuring his business associate, Henry Zhao, a Chinese energy conglomerate linked to Chinese intelligence. To make matters worse, Hunter was linked to staying at Biden’s Delaware home, the same day he sent the text message, which also would have given him access to then-Vice-President Biden’s classified documents. Whatever business Hunter was conducting that day, it seems to have been concluded in Biden’s favor, as just a few days after the threatening text messages were sent Hunter replied sent a message to Zhao “[m]y family sends their best wishes and looks forward to playing some golf when the director has time.”
