“The Godfather of A.I.” Quits Google, Said He Regrets His Life’s Work
Geoffrey Hinton paved the way for A.I. Now he has quit his job at Google, where he worked for over a decade, and became one of the most respected engineers in his field. Hinton is now speaking out about the risks of A.I., and a part of him regrets his life’s work of developing the technology that is the intellectual foundation for the A.I. systems of Google and other tech companies. Hinton is a graduate professor at the University of Toronto. “I console myself with the normal excuse: If I hadn’t done it, somebody else would have,” Hinton said during an interview with the New York Times last week.
