Musk Labels NPR, BBC, as ‘Government-Funded Media’ on Twitter

In Elon Musk’s latest Twitter antics, the CEO branded several media organizations, including NPR and BBC, as “government-funded media.” Musk, a frequent critic of liberal media outlets, initially labeled NPR as “state-affiliated media,” putting it on a par with the Russian propaganda network RT and China’s Xinhua News Agency. However, the media platform then changed the label to “government-funded media” following backlash from NPR and BBC. In a recent statement, NPR said the media company will officially quit Twitter altogether: “NPR will no longer post fresh content to its 52 official Twitter feeds, becoming the first major news organization to go silent on the social media platform.” In explaining its decision, NPR cited Twitter's initial branding of the network as "state-affiliated media," the same term it uses for propaganda outlets in Russia, China, and other autocratic countries. Currently, Biden’s goal is for electric vehicle sales to make up 67% of new car sales by 2032, a staggering change from EVs making up just 5% of sales currently. In addition to the burden placed on manufacturers to begin producing such extensive ranges of electric vehicles, many are worried about China's significant control over the market, with the country making up a vast swath of lithium battery manufacturing and resource mining. The Rats May, In Fact, Run This City

R.O.U.S. (Rodents of Unusual Size) with orange teeth are wreaking havoc in parts of the U.S. The nutria, an invasive rodent with bright orange teeth that can weigh up to 20 pounds, is on Texas’s “most unwanted list.” The species is native to South America but has made its way to parts of the U.S., including Texas, Oregon, and California. They are known for lurking in marshes around golf courses and other wetland areas. The creepy-looking rodents breed year-round and are difficult to capture and collar because they do not have necks. Experts are currently looking to Maryland for inspiration on eradicating the species. Federal and state officials in Maryland spent over two decades and $30 million to eliminate nutria, and officials there say they’re ready to help other states. Read More

What We Know About the Louisville Bank Shooting

The deadly mass shooting on Monday took only one minute for 25-year-old Connor Sturgeon to kill five at the Old National Bank in Louisville, KY. The victims are four Old National Bank employees: Jim Tutt, 64; Tommy Elliott, 63; Juliana Farmer, 57; Josh Barrick, 40 and Deana Eckert, 47. After the initial rampage, Sturgeon waited for police to arrive before firing again, shooting one policeman in the head and injuring several others. According to his LinkedIn profile, the assailant had interned at the bank for three summers before being employed full-time for nearly two years. A law enforcement official said that the bank had recently notified Sturgeon that he would be fired from his job. Sturgeon also live-streamed the deadly massacre on Instagram after leaving a note to his family that he planned to shoot up the bank. Sturgeon was a University of Alabama graduate and high-school star athlete known for suffering a string of concussions.
