House Speaker Kevin McCarthy visited New Mexico’s Second Congressional District to support 2024 candidate Yvette Herrell who was ousted in the 2022 election by less than 1400 votes. This is the Speaker’s first stop to expand the GOP’s majority in the upcoming election. According to a press release, the rest of the party's leadership will also endorse Yvette for the 2024 cycle. In addition to giving Yvette his complete and total endorsement, McCarthy will be holding a fundraiser, expecting to bring in upwards of $100,000 for her comeback campaign. Regardless of the results of this trip, it’s clear that Republicans are getting a headstart on the next elections and want candidates to know they’re serious about expanding their majority in 2024.
